 Extension to the Salmon Season on the Blackwater
The extension of the salmon angling season to to October 12th., 2012
has now been confirmed. It will be fly only with single barbless hooks - C&R.

The First Springers of the 2012 Season

The honour of catching the first springer on the river Blackwater fell this year to Lodge proprietor Ian Powell (left) who caught this very fresh 6.2 pounder at the Jole on Lower Kilmurry at 13.40 on February 3rd. This was followed quickly by Paul Howard with his first ever springer of 8.5lb on February 5th. again on Lower Kilmurry. His pal Ger McCarthy also caught a sea-liced 5 pounder on the same beat the same afternoon and they saw about a dozen fresh springers during the course of the day. The river is coming into cracking order today. The gauge height was 0.78m on the morning of the 6th.

We initiated a very limited syndicate scheme in 2010. This will be extended further for 2012 with membership for either the full season or just the first 4 months. This will provide an enticing opportunity for those who are able to fish the Blackwater more often. Syndication details

 

Fly-Fishing. Superb water for fly fishing.  Learn flycasting with our instructors  - from beginner to advanced spey casting.  Fly-only anglers don't share beats with spin/bait anglers.  No beat over-crowding.  Normal limit: Two fly anglers per beat. Spin / Bait fishing. Superb water for spinning or bait fishing.  Shrimp & worm also allowed.  Tuition in all methods of fishing available.  Normal limit: Four anglers per beat. The Lodge is situated in a superb location looking down on to the river (as seen in the photo to the right). 652 for 1,342 rod days (0.49 fish/rod day). 168 for 183 rod days.      (Best July since 2000 when 263                                           were caught for 750 rod days)  September 26 - 26 fish to 16lb. taken.   Eleven fish on September 21st.   Thirty-five in total for the season. Second Highest Ever for the Total 2011 Season. Highest Ever for the months of May & June. Second Highest for the month of September. Fifth Highest for August.  Eighth Highest for July.
