Description:
Access to the top of the beat is from the very top of the meadow, & entering here you can descend the high bank to the head of a fast flowing run, which exits from a very deep pool under the cliff face above.  In the centre of the run, there is a small deep hole about 9 feet in depth, & the run then shallows up to 3-4 feet as the flow heads across the pool before it reaches the high bank on the corner.  Where the current goes under the far bank is often a good taking spot with the floated shrimp in low clear water, but it is a long cast.  Spinning can be productive both in the run & in the slower water of the pool itself.  The tail of the pool is an excellent spring lie when salmon are running the upper river in high spring water.

The pool shallows up as the trees begin on our side.  From here, down to just above where the electricity wires cross the river, there is deeper fast run, which is a excellent taking place for running grilse.  This part is a prime salmon spawning area in November and December.

Just above the Wires, a fast running glide makes it's way down towards a sweeping bend.  This stretch can be fished with the fly, worm and spinner, and, for the more skilful angler, the spun shrimp.  This run fishes beautifully from our side, with easy wading through shallow water over a gravely bottom, casting out to the deeper water (4-6 feet) under the high bank opposite. The bottom is large gravel and rocks.  Fish can be taken all the way down the run, but the point where it drops into the pool on the Bend is particularly productive with fly, spinner, spun shrimp & worm.  This stretch deepens off as it comes into the Bend, dropping to 7-8 feet.  This pool is justifiably known as The Hot Spot for float fished shrimp, & takes can be expected anywhere when trotting the float around right under the far bank of the Bend, where the depth varies between 4-6 feet.

There is a gravel beach at the Bend, from which it is easy to fish the pool on the Bend, but this ends at the beginning of the straight, from which point the best method to fish the straight is to long trot a floated shrimp.  As the river flows to the right around the Bend, and then left as it straightens out, it deepens off to about 8 feet, & here is another excellent taking spot.        From there to the Bottom Boundary, the river goes into a lovely ripply run which is nice fly water. The Bottom Boundary, which is marked by the Stream at the end of the meadow.

You can get down to water level just above the Stream which marks the Lower Boundary, & from here you can spin in high water or float the shrimp in low water.
