Beat 9 - Junction (Bridgetown Abbey)
Section 2

The Abbey Stream

Go through the trees & back to
just below the head of the Abbey Island.
Fish the run from the bank until just above
the tree stumps on the far side.
From here you can wade and fish
the lovely streamy water all the way down
to the tail of the island.

The Stumps Pool

Towards the tail of the island,
there is a hole under the far bank,
just above the vee where the stream
comes back around the bottom of the Island.
This hole & the vee are excellent spots
to pick up running fish in medium water.

The Run into the Junction Pool

After the vee & the confluence,
there is a lovely ripply run
down to the Junction Pool.
This is superb fly water at medium/low levels,
easily fished by overhead casting.
It is also very good for spinning
& shrimp float fished about 4 feet deep.
At the tail of this run, there is a large rock
right in the middle of the stream
directly opposite the point at the Junction.
A great snag & a great lie !

The Junction Pool can be fished with floated shrimp
or very light worming in low water.
It's depth is about 6 feet, & it is full of rocks & snags. This pool comes into it's own when the Blackwater is high & dirty, & the Awbeg, the spring-fed tributary which runs into the Blackwater here, is still running clear. Fish then congregate in the pool of clear water at & below the Junction, & worming can be deadly in these conditions. The first 20 m of the Awbeg can also be very good with the fly under similar conditions, particularly if one can see fish running into the Awbeg. The centre of the River Awbeg where it enters the River Blackwater is the Downstream Limit of the Bridgetown Abbey Beat.
