Best Day of the Season so far!!
We have 4 fish reported today from three of the upper beats.
Syndicate rod Billy Moylan from Portlaoise caught a stonking 14/15 pounder on fly on Woodstream.
Declan Burke took his First Ever springer - a 12 pounder on fly also from Woodstream.
Two other syndicate rods also got into their first fish of the season.
Ronan Brennan had his first a fly he had tied himself with a 6 pounder from Bridgetown
& Daniel Kolomanski had a 6 pounder from Killavullen on spinner.
Conditions are perfect with the height now good for fly on almost all beats
the water temperature at 49F (9.5C) & the clarity about 5 feet.
Combine that with air temperatures today between 15 - 20C & you could be in heaven!

Best March since 2006!
March has started well with seven fish up to the 16th. including the first ones on the fly.
It's already it's the Best March Total for 8 years - since 2006 when 15 were caught.

This is 12 year old James O'Keeffe
who landed this 12lb. beauty on the
afternoon of Saturday, March 28 on the
Inches on Upper Kilmurry on the lower river.

He caught it on a Cascade #10 which
he had tied himself.

The fish took him 40 minutes to land.


The river below the Lodge @ 12.30pm today. Ballyduff gauge height  0.64m.  Clarity 5 feet. Perfect conditions!

 until Thursday when high presure should build again with more fine weather.

 Colour/Clarity:   5 feet throughout & improving.

 Run of Fish:  Reports of plenty of fish in the upper river especially.
                      Fresh springers are being caught up as far as Banteer (90km upriver).
                      2 grilse caught 3 miles below Millstreet on Saturday

 Catches:   Best March since 2006 with nine fish to 12lb. caught.
                  Best Day of Season so far. 4 fish to 14lb. caught - 3 on fly

 Methods:   
Excellent fly & spinning order.

 Prospects:  SUPERB for the coming days as the river fines off.
                   Full moon & High tides from Tuesday to Saturday to help bring fish in.

 Highlights
 
 Feb. 19:  The first day the river was fishable & 2 springers landed!  Both on spinner
                - one from Lower Kilmurry & the other from Ballyhooly (15 miles upriver).
March 6:  Third fish of the season taken on Ballyhooly once again. 7lb. Just lost it's sea-lice!
March 8:  Only 2 rods out & one caught 2 springers 5 & 6lb. One sea-liced. Both released.
March 10. A lovely fresh fish 8lb. taken on spinner from the lower river & another
                 definite springer lost on the upper river in the early evening.
March 13:  One 7lb. fish from the lower river.
March 15: 
The First on the Fly!  Taken by Conor Arnold on the upper river on a Monkey.
March 16:  One 8lb. fish on fly from the lower river.
March 17:  One fish lost on fly on the lower river & a few springers seen.
March 28:  One fish lost on spinner upriver.
March 29:  Best of Season on Fly so far!  12lb. caught by 12 year old James O'Keeffe.
