Extension to the Salmon Season on the Blackwater to October 12th., 2012
The extension to the salmon angling season has now been confirmed.
It will be fly only, single barbless hooks - Catch & release.

The First Springer of the 2012 Season

The honour of catching the
first springer on the Lodge beats
fell this year to
proprietor Ian Powell
who caught this very fresh 6.2 pounder
at the Jole on Lower Kilmurry
at 13.40 on February 3rd.

The fish didn't have sea-lice so had
been in the river a couple of days.
This could mean that there is a good
head of springers in the river already.

It could well be the first springer to be caught on the river this season.

The river is coming into cracking order.
The Gauge Height was 0.78m
on the evening of the 3rd.

but show the trend of the river height on the upper reaches of the river.
Floods which peak at Kanturk peak at Ballyduff ~15 hours later.

Please note that there are no upstream gauge
readings available since 09.15am on January 4.

Current Situation & Prospects

Catches: The First Springer was caught on February 3rd.
Methods: Spinning at the moment but should be in fly order in a day or two if there's no more appreciable rain!
Prospects: Looking very good as it would appear as if there may be reasonable numbers of springers present.
