The Stop Salmon Drift Nets Now Killarney Rally on October 22, 2005

The rally was called by the
"Stop Salmon Drift Nets Now"
organisation to demonstrate
the depth of feeling to the Government
at the Fianna Fail (governing party)
Ard Fheis (annual general meeting)
which was being held at
the Gleneagles Hotel in Killarney.

 

The rally convened at 1.30pm
on the Saturday afternoon.

Between 4-5,00 supporters turned out.

Several addresses were made
as the crowd gathered at the Grotto
on the outskirts of Killarney town.
The parade proceeded
into and through the town centre
& then out towards the Gleneagles hotel
The parade was about one mile long
and took over an hour to cover
the 2¼ miles to the Gleneagles.
The parade concluded
right outside the Gleneagles
and the masses were then addressed
by a number of speakers -
Vincent Duigan (Campaign manager for Stop Now), Patsy Peril (Irish Drift Netsmens Ass.)
followed by Orri Vigfussen (NASF)
& concluding with Niall Green
(Chairman - Stop Now)
The culmination was
the presentation of a letter of protest
to Minister John O'Donoghue
in the presence of Noel Flynn
& the infamous Pat "the Cope" Gallagher.
