Biggest Fish of 2010 caught on Saturday, August 7th. - on fly!

Gavin Wishart (Newcastle, Co. Down) caught a slightly coloured May fish on the 7th.
on a small gold shrimp pattern on the Lug Pool on Lower Kilmurry gillied by Connie Corcoran.
Connie estimated the fish @ 14-15lb. and it was quickly released.
Gavin & Connie caught five fish for the day, releasing four.

There were eleven fish caught for 10 rod days on the 7th. - the best day so far for August.
Martin Heffer (UK) caught his first ever salmon and it was on fly on a guided day with Glenda.

Current Situation
Total for the first 8 days of August is 35 fish for 53 rod days, a remarkable figure when one takes into account
that the river level has been very low during this time going from 0.17m on the 1st. to 0.15m on the 8th.
Clarity is a slightly murky 4-5 feet.  A big flood would be welcome to flush out the river & to bring in
the huge number of fish that are waiting in the tidal reaches for a rise to encourage them to run the main river.
There are plenty of fish showing in the pools on the lower river and some fish running every day.

River height for the last 3 months.
Following on from the last newsletter which told of the Best Ever Month of July in terms of catch/rod day,
it is interesting to note that the river level was far lower in July 2010 than in the previous 3 years, and indeed
- this was the same for the months of May & June as well. The table below shows just how far below the
previous 3 years that the river height has been this year.
