Weather, River Conditions & Catches
Things are looking decidedly more optimistic with the weather now having broken.
It has been one of the driest spells for the last 50 years & we have had very low water.
The graph of the 7 Day Metcheck forecast below will be a new feature on the Fishing Report page.

In spite of the low water catches have not been bad - with 10 fish to 12lb. caught for only 17 rod days in the first 9 days of July.

Prospects
The coming weeks look very promising now the weather has changed. Large numbers of fish are waiting in the tidal reaches
to run into the main river as soon as we get any kind of a flood. There are a good number of very fresh fish in the 15-20lb. class there.
If you've been fed up with the long dry spell, the next week or so could provide the cure!

Availability
We have availability of rods & accommodation in the next couple of weeks.
Late summer and backend weeks are now filling up fast, so contact us quickly if you are thinking of fishing later in the season.

Joint Best Fish of the Season caught yesterday (July 9)

Dave Connon from South Africa caught the joint Best Fish of the Season
yesterday on spinner on Beat 4 - Kents.
It weighed around 12lb & had been in the river a month or two,
and was safely released after landing.
It was Dave's first ever salmon & he went on to catch his second t
he same day - a 4lb grilse on worms which was also released alive.

Apologies for the picture quality.
It was taken quickly on his phone before releasing the fish alive!

River Conditions & Catches

The graph on the left shows
rainfall & river height
& the one on the right
the number of rods fishing
& fish caught per day.

Obviously, there is a direct relationship between
rainfall/water height & the
number of fish caught
(not forgetting that the number
of people fishing is also
a major factor).

Rainfall & River Height

We have had quite a lot of rain
in the last day or so &
the forecast is wet & broken
for the next week.
The graph on the left will be a new
feature on the Fishing Report page.

The Blackwater catchment lies mainly
in Co. Cork, but in the all-important
upper catchment it is bordered
by Counties Kerry & Limerick.

The graph on the left shows the
forecast rainfall for the next 7 days.
The graph on the right shows river
 levels here & 70 & 90km upstream.
